Can you afford to keep wasting energy?
Reducing your energy use is the key to beating energy shortages and rising costs
It can also help you comply with green house gas (GHG) legislation.
For many the answer is an Energy Management System (EnMS), a framework for the systematic management of energy.
As well as cutting costs and GHG emissions, a third party certified EnMS can enhance your reputation by demonstrating your commitment to environmental sustainability.
ISO 50001 represents the latest international best practice in energy management, building upon existing national and regional standards and initiatives. The standard has been in development for a number of years with energy management experts, representing over 60 countries from across the world, coming together to establish the framework.
ISO 50001 will help you implement the processes necessary to understand your baseline energy usage, put in place action plans, targets and energy performance indicators for reducing consumption and identify, prioritise, and record opportunities for improving energy performance.
Who is ISO 50001 for?
ISO 50001 is suitable for any organization – whatever your size, sector or geographical location. It is particularly relevant if you operate in an energy intensive industry or one facing GHG emissions regulation or legisltation.
Being independently certified to ISO 50001 by BSI, an independent third-party, will be the ultimate assurance to your stakeholders that you have embedded your EnMS into your organization, and comply with Energy Management best practice.

Certification can demonstrate to your stakeholders that you meet the very latest energy management best practice.
We’re an accredited body ourselves, which ensures that we look at your management system from an independent angle.
Our highly trained and experienced assessors offer their industry knowledge to help you get the most out of ISO 50001 Energy Management.
The Energy Management Assessment Process
The Energy Management System (EnMS) assessment is conducted by one of our highly trained and experienced client managers who will have an excellent understanding of your business area and will support you as you move forward with the assessment and certification of your EnMS.
The assessment is typically conducted in two stages. The first stage, called the initial assessment, will look at the top level policy, documentation, processes and procedures in place to manage your energy consumption and your client managers will identify any omissions or weaknesses that need resolving before the main assessment. The client managers will gain familiarity with your site and plan the next stage in detail. Stage Two of the assessment is focused on the effective implementation of the policy, documentation, processes and procedures and will involve discussions with all levels of staff within your organization.
Subject to a successful EnMS assessment, a certificate of registration will be issued to demonstrate the scope of your activities, the locations covered, and the standard against which you have been assessed. The certificate will be valid for three years, and your client managers will visit you regularly to help you make sure you remain compliant, and support you in the continual improvement of your systems.
