With the invitation of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), BSI and HKUST have jointly organized a seminar about the Business Continuity Management (BS 25999) on 28 July 2007.
The participants included the students of the Executive Diploma in Management 2007 program who were mostly from senior management level of different industries, and 10 participants from the Hong Kong Police Force including a Super Intendant. The talk was delivered by theDirector of Strategic Development Asia Pacific, Mr. Tom Harland MBE from BSI.
Business Continuity Management is a holistic management process that identifies potential impacts that threaten an organization, provides a framework for building resilience and also enables the capability for an effective response. At the same time, it is the safeguards of different related parties, including the keys stakeholders, business reputation and the brand. As being pointed out by Mr. Harland, with regard to the natural disasters, man-made incidents, political changes and other challenges that would post threats to affect the stability of the organizations, there was a promptly need to implement the Business Continuity Management. After implementing this standard, it could surely improve the organization’s resilience against the disruption of its ability to achieve its key objectives, provided a rehearsed method of restoring an organization’s ability to supply its critical products and services to an agreed level within an agreed time after a disruption, and also to deliver a proven capability to manage a business disruption and protected the organization’s reputation and brand.
