The BSI Group has, for many years, pioneered developments in standards and certification. We seek to be in the forefront of developments in both products and processes associated with systems certification.
We always promote accredited certification, where you not only have the assurance of the BSI Group but also that of an independent accreditation body. In Hong Kong, we are proud to be accredited by HKCAS. As a company with British origins, we naturally also started with accreditation from the UK’s national accreditation body, UKAS. As our business has become truly international, we have sought to partner with a truly international accreditation body, to provide global accreditation for the BSI Group. Our chosen partner is ANSI-ASQ the American National Accreditation Board (ANAB).
ANAB was created by two famous organisations: the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the American Society for Quality (ASQ). It has grown rapidly and has become one of the most influential accreditation bodies in the world. It led the development of the MCAA (multi lateral co-operative accreditation arrangement), paving the way for real and effective collaboration between accreditation bodies worldwide. Many other ABs have since signed up to the MCAA, notably the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ), the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), the Korea Accreditation Board (KAB), the Japan Accreditation Board (JAB) the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF), and the Entidad Mexicana de Accreditacion (EMA). Others are expected to join shortly.
ANAB publicly declares that part of its mission is to exert a greater influence on international accreditation and its senior staff have spearheaded the development of new standards for accreditation of certification bodies, notably ISO 17021. With this background, we believe that ANAB is the correct global partner for a global organisation such as BSI and therefore our international accreditation will move progressively towards ANAB.
