Asia’s First Commercial Company and the World’s First Paper Trading Company to Receive BSI’s PAS 2060 Certificate
Hong Kong, 26 May 2011 - BSI, a leading global independent business services organization dedicated to providing standard-based solutions to customers, has awarded the PAS 2060 carbon neutrality certificate to Hong Kong based Polytrade Paper Corporation Limited, Asia’s first commercial organization and the world’s first paper trading company to receive this certificate. The certificate was set against the PAS 2060 standard which was developed by BSI with input from the UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change. It is an internationally recognised standard that ensures a smooth transition to carbon neutrality for organisations around the globe.
With interest in carbon neutral business growing worldwide, BSI’s PAS 2060 standard can provide organisations with a consistent and internationally recognised method of achieving carbon neutrality. Building on existing environmental standards including the ISO 14000 environmental management series and the PAS 2050, it lays down the requirements which must be met by organisations seeking to achieve and demonstrate carbon neutrality.
“The PAS 2060 is an important standard that will enhance the transparency of carbon neutrality in the region by providing a common definition and a recognised method of achieving carbon neutral status to companies worldwide,” said Mr Moyuan Liu, Chairman and Managing Director of BSI China. “We are excited to have awarded Asia’s first PAS 2060 certification for a commercial organisation to Polytrade paper, an organization with a proven dedication to environmentally sustainable business and I am confident that this will be the first of many certifications in China.”
Polytrade Paper’s receipt of BSI’s PAS 2060 certification reflects the company’s continued dedication to providing environmentally friendly paper to the Hong Kong market. In 2005, it was the first Hong Kong paper merchant to be awarded with FSC-CoC certification.
“We are extremely proud to become Asia’s first commercial organization to have received BSI’s PAS 2060 certification,” said Mr. Charles Chan, Business Strategy, Polytrade Paper. “We believe that environmental performance is critical to the long-term success of any business and have always strived to source and supply products with minimum environmental impact. Our move to carbon neutrality was greatly eased by the PAS 2060’s clear methodology. ”
